SINTEF AS is the largest independent research organization in Norway with around 2200 employees and a turnover in the order of 400 M€. SINTEF creates value through knowledge generation, research and innovation, and develops technological solutions that are brought into practical use. SINTEF AS is a multidisciplinary organisation with over 90% of the income coming bilateral industrial research contracts and participation in European or National research projects. The organization carries out industrial contract research, as well as basic research. SINTEF Industry is the largest institute under the umbrella of SINTEF AS, with more than 400 employees and is heavily involved in facilitating a sustainable industry. Research specializes in materials and nanotechnology, applied and analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental sciences, biotechnology and nanomedicine. The latter two are predominantly covered by the Department of Biotechnology and Nanomedicine (BTN), which is the largest of SINTEF Industry’s departments and the one actively involved in BioBIVE. The department specializes in i.a., biotechnology, biomass processing, analytical chemistry, materials, and nanotechnology.
