The University of Bari Aldo Moro (UNIBA), founded in 1925, is a state-supported university in Southern Italy. It is attended today by about 42,000 students and reaches its institutional goals in
teaching and research through its 20 Departments.
The university offers various courses for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students. Aside from teaching, the university is also focused on scientific research.
The UNIBA research team, belonging to the Department of Soil, Plant and Food Science, has experiences in Biosystems Engineering and Plant Pathology.
The BioSystems Engineering unit specializes in: greenhouse and livestock structures, equipment and microclimate; radiometric properties of materials; biodegradable agricultural films, extruded films and spray mulching coatings; agricultural plastic waste management; renewable energy sources and rationale use of energy; urban agriculture.
The Plant Pathology unit focuses on the biology, epidemiology, and omics of fungal, bacterial, viral, and phytoplasma pathogens, including quarantine and emerging diseases. It develops integrated management strategies -biological, chemical, and physical- for plant health, with specific expertise in soilborne pathogens, soil disinfestation, and soilless systems.
